Who was Francis of Assisi? Is he more than the statue found in so many gardens? Join Ann and Jill in exploring Francis’ deep love and appreciation of the created world including a fresh look at his famous poem ‘The Canticle of the Creatures’.
This workshop will introduce you to Franciscan value of contemplation as a long loving look at the sacredness of God in all Creation. Francis believed and taught that Creation revealed God’s very character and nature, granting all living beings the dignity and value of being image bearers. In the Canticle Francis even makes the bold assertion that we are family with all things in the natural world.
During this workshop we will introduce you to this humble 12th century monk and tell some of the stories of his life and ministry that are both endearing and provocative for us today. We will unpack the famous Canticle and invite you to spend some time in contemplation with this text. If weather permits you will be invited to go outside or to look outside from your window.
Finally we will consider what the invitation is for us to live in relationship to the created world today.
