Group Spiritual Direction is a practice that allows a small group to hold space for each other through the modeling and hosting of a trained spiritual director. Participants in these kinds of groups may show up and hold others in a brave and sacred space. Many are seeking communities of being for deep questions and deep conversations to integrate their experience and longing for connection.
In this course, we will learn about and experience the gift of group spiritual direction in our own small groups. In the process, we will begin to imagine and implement adding this important offering in our own practices. We will explore different models of hosting groups so that you will be able to discover what feels true for your practice.

Lynn Holt
Lynn “companioned” people for over two decades as a Quaker pastor, educator, spiritual director and supervisor. As a mentor and a supervisor, her passion is to prepare and support soul companions in their early and ongoing formation as they seek to live out their call to accompany others.
Lynn is a co-founder of the Companioning Center, a contemplative spiritual formation and training center for soul companions and spiritual directors based in the Quaker tradition of deep listening, waiting-silence, and discernment that supports faithful action and presence in the world. A Recorded Minister among Friends, she has an MDiv from Portland Seminary and Certificates from the Mercy Center in Burlingame, CA, and Shalem Institute.
Our capacity to accompany and bear witness to pain and suffering, as we hold hope and joy, invites story-sharing, deep questions, embodied reflection, and compassionate listening. In the dynamic relationship of divine Presence and Love, a path to healing and wholeness becomes a conduit for faithful action and repair in the world. This is at the center of our work as spiritual directors.

Alongside Sharon’s work as a spiritual director and supervisor, she brings experience and expertise from her work as a teacher, restorative circle facilitator, and cognitive coach. She enjoys hosting and facilitating spaces where learning is shared and where participants embrace that we are all beginners and have wisdom to share.
Sharon’s personal journey has been marked by significant challenges, including breast cancer and donating a kidney to her son. Those experiences helped her lean into the gift of embracing both the highs and lows of life with an appreciation of Mystery and a deepening awareness of God’s faithfulness.
Her spiritual direction training was in West Michigan at the Dominican Center. Further training for accompanying children and supervision was at the Companioning Center.
