Tending the Director: Group Spiritual Direction Supervision

How do we tend ourselves as we walk alongside others, listening deeply?

Many express that being a spiritual director can feel lonely and isolating. While individual supervision is invaluable, there is a distinct gift in gathering with peers—learning together, being witnessed, and growing our capacity to host others through the shared experience of group supervision.

We invite you to join us for a dedicated, monthly 2-hour supervision space anchored in a contemplative, compassionate, and evocative approach.

Term Structure & Continuous Growth

To foster a trustworthy, deep container, this offering is structured in 5-month cohort terms. While each term stands on its own, directors are warmly encouraged to sign up for sequential terms to maintain an ongoing rhythm of support for their ministry.
  • Winter/Spring Term: January - May
  • Fall Term: August - December

Special Focus: Evocative Listening

While each session holds space for your active direction practice, our continuing education teachings this season will center on Evocative Listening—the art of listening beyond words to cultivate open, evocative questions, hold sacred silence, and pay attention to the subtle movements of the Divine.

Monthly Rhythms & Flow

Each 2-hour monthly gathering is split into two distinct parts:
  1. Continuing Education (30 mins): A brief, grounded conversation focused on Evocative Listening principles and inner formation for directors.
  2. Small Group Supervision (90 mins): We break into small groups of 4 directors, facilitated by a trained spiritual direction supervisor
  • Each month, 2 directors present a session or theme from their ministry for group reflection.
  • Over the 5-month term, every director will present twice.
Our very first session together will focus on shaping our group covenant and holding space for one another. We hope this offering becomes an essential, long-term sanctuary for you and your ministry for as long as it serves your calling.

Kathi Gatlin

Kathi Gatlin (D.Min.) founded Boldly Loved and co-founded the Companioning Center to bring together her two greatest passions: spiritual formation and teaching. Her heart’s passion is walking alongside individuals and groups as they discover fresh ways of experiencing God through contemplative practice and deep listening.

Kathi holds a Doctorate in Ministry in Leadership and Spiritual Formation from Portland Seminary and a Master of Education from George Fox University. Her work as a spiritual director, supervisor, and educator is grounded in contemplative supervision (trained through Together in the Mystery) and Compassion-Based Spiritual Direction with Frank Rogers, integrating Internal Family Systems (IFS) into contemplative spiritual companioning.

Whether leading retreats, facilitating supervision cohorts, or teaching, Kathi delights in creating safe, sacred spaces where people can grow in their understanding of God and rest in who they are in divine relationship. Explore more of her work at boldlyloved.org.
